Every year, many people with hip replacements suffer pain and undergo unnecessary and dangerous surgeries to replace defective or poorly designed hip replacements. Frequently, this occurs because hip replacement manufacturers rush to sell new devices that have not been adequately tested.
Hip replacement devices are expected to last from 15 to 20 years, or more. If you have a hip implant manufactured by DePuy Orthopeadics, a Johnson & Johnson company, that is failing early or you require surgery to remove your hip replacement device, you may be entitled to substantial compensation for you injuries.

The DePuy ASR Hip Replacement Recall
DePuy Orthopaedics recalled the ASR hip replacement device in August 2010 after a group of top DePuy executives decided the ASR hip replacement was defective because it failed prematurely, requiring surgery to replace the device.
The DePuy ASR is a metal hip replacement device and is defective because it has a high propensity to shed toxic metal particles and debris in the patient’s blood and surrounding tissue and muscles. The toxic metal debris causes pain, inflammation, metallosis, bone and tissue loss, implant loosening and development of pseudotumors.
DePuy ASR Hip Replacement Settlements
DePuy Orthopaedics has settled thousands of DePuy ASR hip replacement lawsuits where the patient had his or her ASR surgically removed prior to January 31, 2015. Settlements have been approximately $250,000.00 for each ASR that has been replaced.
You May Still be Entitled to Compensation for a Defective ASR
If you have a DePuy ASR hip replacement and are suffering from groin pain, hip pain, clicking or grinding noises from the hip, or you doctor says you have metallosis, high metal blood levels, implant loosening, or need to surgically remove your DePuy ASR, you may very well be entitled to substantial compensation. The law limits the time within which you may make a claim, so do not delay learning about your rights.
DePuy Pinnacle Metal-on-Metal Hip Replacement – Withdrawn from the Market
In August 2013, DePuy Orthopaedics announced that it was discontinuing the sale of it Pinnacle metal-on-metal hip replacement device. Although DePuy admits that patients implanted with the Pinnacle are at risk for adverse responses to metal debris including pain, high metal blood levels, bone loss, tissue damage, implant loosening and early implant failure, DePuy claims it is not withdrawing the Pinnacle for these reasons. Rather, DePuy claims it stopped selling the Pinnacle because few patients will buy a metal-on-metal implant. Of course, patients have stopped using metal-on-metal implants like the Pinnacle because many doctors say they are dangerous.
The fact is that many patients with DePuy Pinnacle metal-on-metal hip replacement have suffered early failure of their implants and had to have the device surgically removed. Many other patients are suffering the adverse effects of metal particles and debris generated by the Pinnacle device.
DePuy Pinnacle Hip Replacement Settlements
There has been no substantial number of settlements for the thousands of patients with DePuy Pinnacle metal-on-metal implants. However, patients with these devices are continuing to press their claims. One jury found that the Pinnacle Ultamet was a defective device, but did not award damages, concluding that the surgeon made a mistake in placement of the device.
